The Executive Fashion & Retail Editor of Tatler, Mariella Tandy gives us some editorial tips and chats to us about some of her favourite places to visit.
What's your favourite place to visit in the UK?
Anywhere by the coast, I love being near the sea.
What are you coveting from the Aspinal AW collection?
What advice would you give any aspiring editors out there?
Start early when at university with work placements. People often think it will be very glamourous and can be surprised by the long hours and the years of building blocks such as doing fashion returns or making tea. If you do get a work placement somewhere be bright and enthusiastic and speak to people about their jobs.
What's your typical day like?
One thing I love about my job is that it is so varied, usually it starts with a breakfast meeting first thing and then I am usually hoping around all over London to various meetings and press launches with very little actual desk time. In the busier months there are several events in the evening too.
Where is your perfect weekend retreat?
Either Gloucestershire where I grew up or visiting my partner's family in Turkey. Istanbul and the south of the country both make wonderful weekend trips depending if you want city or beach action. At the moment we are spending a lot of time in Istanbul in the run up to the launch of my jewellery collection- Alemdara. All inspired by Turkish symbols such as the evil eye and the hand of Hamsa.
What is your favourite area of London and why?
I love the Elizabeth Street/ Pimlico road area because of the fantastic selection of restaurants and the village like atmosphere, it is also 5 minutes away from my most favourite place- Battersea Park. We spend hours in there with our dogs and baby.
Are you a town or country gal?
Town but near greenery!
