What is Saffiano Leather? Let Us Explain....

Saffiano leather is a textured leather praised for its durability and high resistant yet elegant finish. Aspinal of London uses only the finest full-grain leather sourced from trusted leather suppliers and experts in luxury craftsmanship. A number of our key pieces are handmade from high-quality Italian saffiano leather which is durable, practical and easy to wipe clean. But what is Saffiano leather and how is it made? Let us explain...

An introduction to our high resistant, very elegant leather:

Production

Saffiano is a textured leather, meaning it has a cross-hatch finish achieved by treating the leather with a specialised stamping machine. This full-grain leather is further finished with a wax treatment. As a result, the leather is highly scratch resistant, durable and exceptionally easy to keep clean.

Markings

The distinctive markings on this leather consist of a series of diagonal lines to create a cross-hatch pattern that renders the leather very resistant to stains, scratches and is also water repellent. Many high-end fashion houses use Saffiano leather for its many positive attributes. The qualities of Saffiano leather were invented by Mario Prada himself, who first invented and patented the technique.

The positive properties of this leather make it ideally suited to a wide range of daily use products including laptop bags, handbags and tote bags, to mens wallets and purses for women - the list goes on! With its remarkable durability, it also creates a vibrant, saturated colour which is why we have chosen it as one of the main leathers within our ongoing product range, as we want you to love your Aspinal product for a lifetime!

Key Saffiano Styles

Initially introduced to the Aspinal of London collection in 2013, the leather is now used for a number of our bestselling styles within the range - each piece creates immense durability, unsurpassed quality and timeless style.
