Summer has a strange effect on the City of London, like us, it just likes to make the most of the sun while it's around. Almost overnight; roof terrace bars and restaurants open, the parks become packed with people trying to escape sunset and there seems to be a pop-up event around every corner. California: Designing Freedom at The Design Museum – Running until 15th October
While the technological gold rush of California is all around us, visiting Kensington's Design Museum will let you follow the journey from the 1960s to present, citing its counter culture and rise to modern day prominence. From hippies with surfboards and LSD to forward thinking designers with iPhones and super powered tech. By the end, you'll be California dreaming too. Film4 Summer Screen at Somerset House – Running from 10th August to 23rd August
At one of London's most spectacular venues, Film4 are host 14 nights of feature length films. Be sure to catch classic and cult films, not to mention a few premiers and double bills too at the largest outdoor screen in the capital. Sunfall Festival at Brockwell Park – 12th August
For the music obsessed, Sunfall has it all. Carefully curated to encompass a global sound of electronic music. Evergreen pioneers like Larry Heard and Roy Ayres, to the well-travelled and all-encompassing sounds of Antal, Gilles Peterson and Motor City Drum Ensemble. BBC Proms in the Park – 9th Sep
The classical open air concert returns to Hyde park for an evening all about music. Quintessentially British, pull out the picnic blanket and find a place on the lawn, indulge with bottles of cava and hampers prepared with meals for two or more.
