London is arguably the greatest city in the world, especially the week before Christmas. With not long to go, we have put together a guide to London's Christmas highlights to entertain yourself and your family before the big day.
Nothing says Christmas like The Nutcracker. Experience Tchaikovsky's masterpiece with your family at The Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, or at ENO's home at the Coliseum just around the corner at Trafalgar Square.
Galleries and Museums
If you and your family like to be cultural at Christmas, London is the best place to be. The National Gallery and National Portrait Gallery in Trafalgar Square are free to the public and both have spectacular exhibitions on at the moment. The V&A in South Kensington also has free entry and an array of fantastic exhibitions. Their performance of Victoria and Albert's Christmas Carol continues throughout the museum until Friday 23rd December. If modern art is more to your taste, Tate Modern is complete with a Christmas Market open until Christmas Eve - and just round the corner from St. Paul's Cathedral.
Take a moment during your last minute Christmas shopping to enjoy the Christmas lights. Every street in London has wonderful displays, but highlights of course include Oxford Street, Regent Street and Covent Garden. If you are looking to avoid the busier locations in London but still want to experience beautiful lights, try Marylebone High Street or Knightsbridge.
Winter Wonderland and Ice Skating
Winter Wonderland is a huge Christmas fair in London's vast Hyde Park. Enjoy lots of Christmassy food and drink and get some Christmas shopping done before going ice skating. Other skating rinks include Skate at Somerset House, the Natural History Museum Ice Rink and the Canary Wharf Ice Rink. Visit to get into the Christmas spirit!
