Professional fashion Stylist, Sophie Stevens gives us her insight into how to make it in the fashion industry and what AW15 trends we should be looking out for.
How did you get into the fashion industry?
I did a degree in fashion and part of my degree required me to complete a work placement. I did mine at a magazine and this is where i gained lots of experience and a good reference from the fashion editor that ultimately helped me to get my first job at a teenage mag as fashion assistant.
Which Aspinal Handbag would be on your shopping list for the new season?
I've totally got my eye on the The Marylebone Tech in the new Burgundy Python shade. Gorgeous, luxe and one of my go to A/W shades.
What tips would you give to aspiring fashion journalists out there?
To gain as much experience as you can! Follow stylists on Instagram and Twitter and be brave enough to get in touch with them to see if they need any assistants. You never know where just one good contact could lead you!
What is a usual day like for you?
Being freelance, every day is different for me. I could be prepping for an editorial shoot, learning lines for a fashion video i'm presenting, lecturing at Conde Nast College of Fashion, or even packing for a shoot abroad. My weeks can be very mixed!
What trends will you buying into for AW15?
This A/W i will mainly be rocking a military feel. I'm really into Khaki shades right now and long s/less waistcoats. Also, I'll be investing in some funnel neck knits too. Always a staple in my A/W wardrobe.
What Aspinal product could you not live without?
I couldn't live without my Marylebone iPad Case in Metallic Smooth Silver. An essential for my freelance days of dashing around town on appointments.
