Discover Aspinal of London

Guest Edit: Eliza Scarborough, Daily Mail

Daily Mail Life & Style Fashion Editor, Eliza Scarborough gives advice on becoming an editor and let's us in on her favourite UK destination.

How did you begin your career in fashion journalism?

I always loved giving my friends make-overs before going out and had no idea that it could exist as a job until I did some work experience on Weekend magazine at Daily Mail. Seven years on and I have worked my way up to Fashion Editor.

What's your typical day like?

I love that no two days are the same. It tends to depend on what stories I am working on. Just last week I spent a day shooting chunky knits in the beautiful Peak District and the following day I was putting together our Christmas gift guides, hunting out the most gorgeous gifts out there from lust after buys to stocking fillers.

What advice would you give any aspiring editors out there?

Try and get some experience and once you get your foot in the door just make yourself indispensable whilst getting a good understanding of the job and what it entails.

What is your favourite Aspinal piece?

For day the Mini Shoulder Buckle Bag in Deer Hair Calf'is perfect slung across body and for evening it has to be the gorgeous Cleopatra Box Clutch in Stingray.

How do you define your style?

I am a lover of shoes and bags so am always a fan of making a statement with them. I tend to choose classics like Theory shirts, MIH jeans and Zara skirts, balancing them out with some sparkle, print and colour in the accessories.

Which Aspinal of London bag would be your perfect party bag and why?

The Star Clutch in Black Glitter will add just the right amount of sparkle to my favourite Whistles feather detail dress for New Year's Eve.

What's your favourite place to visit in the UK and why?

I'm a country girl so I love a weekend escape back home to Jersey where I grew up for coastal dog walks and fish & chips on the beach.

Where is your perfect weekend retreat?

A weekend in Rye, the pretty coastal town feels like a film set. Staying at the Gallivant Boutique Hotel is perfect for wrapping up in cashmere layers and blustery morning walks on the beach.

What Aspinal of London gift would you most like to find under your tree this Christmas?

Marylebone Tote - it's such a keep forever bag.

What Aspinal gift would you want to give to a loved one and why?

It would have to be the Classic Travel Wallet personalised with their initials - nothing makes travelling more stylish.
