Discover Aspinal of London

Guest Edit: Stylist, Angie Smith

Celebrity Stylist, Angie Smith talks to us about being her own boss, appreciating where she is and what she's looking forward to at Christmas.

How did you get into styling?

I always had part-time jobs in shops and have been fascinated by a good makeover, but ended up working in menswear for the first 5 years after leaving Uni, I went freelance after that and discovered how much I loved womenswear which is mainly what I do now. To be honest I had no idea what a stylist even was before I started my first work placement on a magazine.

What did you want to be when you were growing up?

Didn't every girl want to be a vet ? That was definitely my first dream job !

Have you had any 'pinch me moments'?

I get them all the time I think it's so important not to take anything for granted. I know how lucky I am to have found a job that I love getting up in the morning to do. The fact that I am my own boss now that is pretty cool. Job wise, I remember when I got the call to style Dannii for X-Factor I was like YES! When Abbey [Clancy] asked to me to come with her to Paris for the shows and the Love Magazine dinner, sitting on a table with so many people you admire and quizzing Katie Grand on how she started her career was definitely a moment I'll remember.

What Aspinal of London gift would you most like to find under your tree this Christmas?

I love the Travel Wallet. It would be super handy as I always need to organise my receipts whilst shopping for multiple clients and perfect for when I go away on trips.

Describe your perfect Christmas.

My perfect Christmas would be spent with family, a Christmas Day morning dog walk and then a slap up lunch in a country pub so no one has to stress about cooking... oh and lots of bubbles !!

What is the best part of being a stylist?

I love meeting new people and how every day is completely different, not knowing what is around the next corner forces you to live in the moment. I remember settling down to watch a film in the cinema once and a client calling and asking me if I could get on a plane to Sydney the next day - I was like, "yes, why the hell not!" I guess I like the randomness !

What Aspinal gift would you want to give to a loved one and why?

I would give my Mum the Marylebone Light in Black as its so chic and big enough to carry everything you need around.

Do you have any New Year's resolutions for 2015?

To see more of the world

Which Aspinal of London bag would be your perfect party bag and why?

The perfect party bag should be one that you can keep hold of and access without having to put your glass down. I reckon the it would have to be the Mini Manhattan Clutch as it's got the option of using the strap.
