It's the most wonderful time of the year…
Believe it or not, Christmas is just around the corner! Whilst it can be easy to get caught up in preparations for the day itself- buying presents and stocking up on food for the entire family- Christmas is also the perfect time to catch up with old friends you haven't seen in a while, and spend time with people closest to you. We like to think of it as a whole season.. rather than just one day!
One of the best things about this time of year has to be all the lovely things to do and see.
Here's our list of fun festive activities in London for all the family:
1. Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park
The perfect place for a date or a catch up with a group of friends, Winter Wonderland is a must-see this Christmas. With a Christmas Market, fairground rides and enough mulled wine and food to keep you warm, there's plenty to do. Find out more here..
2. Ice Skating at Somerset House
A favourite for this time of year, ice skating is sure to put you in the mood for Christmas. You'll need to book tickets in advance and select a time slot, as the rink gets very busy. Music plays while you skate, and you can relax knowing that should you fall, one of the Ice Marshalls will scoop you up and set you back on your feet. And for the little ones, there are penguins to help you skate!
3. Hot chocolate in Covent Garden
Chill out and warm up with a hot drink after a stressful Christmas shopping trip. Covent Garden is home to a number of cafés, and is a great place to people watch.
4. Oxford Circus Christmas lights
Beautiful at this time of year, Oxford Circus is renowned for its beautiful Christmas lights. Walking down Oxford Street and looking at all the beautiful decorations always makes us feel Christmassy... and it won't cost you anything.
5. Selfridges' Christmas Windows
There's lots to see in London this Christmas, and Selfridges' Christmas windows are a visual treat not to be missed. Every year they take on a new theme and are completely transformed into something magical and festive; as a child I was always excited to see what they might be each Christmas. To see Selfridges' Christmas windows for 2013 without leaving your house, view our blog here!
6. Harrods' Santa's Grotto
Europe's largest department store and indeed, one of London's most iconic, Harrods will be holding its traditional Santa's Grotto this Christmas, running all the way up to Christmas Eve. Children and their parents can meet Father Christmas at the grotto and share their wish lists with him. This year, Father Christmas will be receiving visitors in an enchanted library, giving each guest a special Harrods book, badge and Christmas chocolate treat to take home. And for the first time, this year there will be a special Father Christmas experience designed for under-fours, making Harrods the perfect place for a festive trip for those with young children.
7. South Bank Christmas Market
The South Bank is always a lovely place to stroll along, with the spectacular London Eye and the beautiful buildings lining the Thames, as well as a variety of places for drinks and dining. Throughout the year you can see mime artists performing in this area, but come winter, a Christmas Market sets up lots of little stalls sprawling along the walk. Pop by for some tasty food and festive handmade gifts.
We hope you enjoy visiting our favourite festive places around London!
