Aspinal of London's introduction into Autumn '22 is titled the English Riviera, taking inspiration from the nostalgic artworks of the mid-1900s depicting Britain's famous beaches.
Aspinal's design team studied the history of the British railway poster, identifying the story behind how the artworks were produced across the 'big four' railway companies between the 1920s and the 1940s.
Artists were commissioned to depict resorts and towns covered by each railway network, from beautiful landscapes, idyllic sunny beaches and slightly risqué bathing belles, to ships, hotels and streamlined expresses. Many of these iconic images have become part of Britain's collective visual culture that has shaped how we view the places we live today.
The English Riviera collection introduces four new silhouettes into Aspinal's handbag collection: Mini Madison, Milly, Ella and Coco, each designed in a smooth leather finish, bringing a fresh aesthetic for the switch towards the Autumn season.
The collection's colour palette is reminiscent of the famous poster artworks, creatively reimagined with a modern twist. Neutral and refined, Sand is a natural hue sampled straight from England's beaches. A subtle earthy rose undertone brings a breath of femininity and reflects the pink sand of warmer climates. At once refreshing and calming, Azure Blue is an inviting, crisp shade that speaks to holidays by the shore; a bold blue that is as fun as an escape to the seaside. Finishing the core seasonal colours, Marmalade achieves a sophisticated, current take on statement colour combined with a retro flair. Complimentary Ivory and Midnight Blue complete the palette with contrasting light and shade.
